Somatic Experiencing

Body-based therapeutic model of nervous system and trauma healing from the work of Dr. Peter Levine. It is beneficial to anyone who lives with stress (all of us!) or trauma, or who simply wants to experience more ease in and connection with their body.

A session might include somatic and cognitive skill building, learning how to attune to/listen to one’s own body, exploring how to consciously regulate emotions and nervous system states, allowing incomplete self-protection responses in the nervous system/physiology to complete, intentional movement, guided meditation, and/or supportive touch.

Somatic Experiencing is not massage therapy, but can include gentle touch. It is also not talk therapy, though there is talking involved! The difference is on focus and intention -- here we are working with and through the physiological aspects of trauma and stress. While story and meaning may arise, my role is to support your body in telling its story and to gently guide and support you through the process.

What does it look like to get started?
After a phone consultation, we’ll get your initial visit scheduled. This visit will include going over your intake form and intentions together, followed by establishing a foundation of skills for leaning into this work. If it feels like a good fit for both of us, I’ll ask you to commit to coming in weekly or bi-weekly for three to six months. Of course we can adjust as needed, but I’ve found that having that container generally feels very supportive and it takes time to build trust and track changes. We move at the pace of your body.

In-person or via Zoom.
