Somatic Experiencing
Body-based therapeutic model of nervous system and trauma healing from the work of Dr. Peter Levine. It is beneficial to anyone who lives with stress (all of us!) or trauma, or who simply wants to experience more ease in and connection with their body.
A session might include somatic and cognitive skill building, learning how to attune to/listen to one’s own body, exploring how to consciously regulate emotions and nervous system states, allowing incomplete self-protection responses in the nervous system/physiology to complete, intentional movement, guided meditation, and/or supportive touch.
Somatic Experiencing is not massage therapy, but can include gentle touch. It is also not talk therapy, though there is talking involved! The difference is on focus and intention -- here we are working with and through the physiological aspects of trauma and stress. While story and meaning may arise, my role is to support your body in telling its story and to gently guide and support you through the process.
How do we begin?
We’ll schedule a consult call so we can connect, clarify your goals, and determine if I’m the right person to help you. If yes, we’ll schedule your initial visit. After your first session, if we both feel it’s a good fit, I’ll ask you to commit to coming at least monthly for 3-6 months. Regularity and a container are essential to this work — it takes time to build trust and skills, and to track changes in your system and life over time.
